Problem Statement

To design a static, simple and responsive website for cancer patients to help them understand diagnosis and treatment.

My role on this project was of UI/UX designer where I was co-leading it from research to dev handoff.

Patient with cancer diseases needs to be well informed of the treatment and diagnosis they are going to undergo, which requires visual content and a site dedicated to it. This will help them be well prepared and also stay calm during the process.

Design Process-2

The initial discovery sessions started with the client. Big 5 business model canvas was used to gain insights on various aspects of the product.

Definition & Ideation-1

Since the client had already hosted the content on an external site and wanted to migrate it on their internal hosting, I did a heuristic analysis of the platform.

Interview-1

I then did a market analysis for competitors on this domain and what features they have and drew general insights on it.

research-1

The valuable insights provided a foundation for creating personas of 3 different types of patients with varying goals and needs on the platform:

  • A patient who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.
  • A patient seeking information on any disease.
  • A patient who is highly knowledgeable about their specific disease.

I developed and analyzed the patients' journey, aligning it with touchpoints, trends, and potential opportunities. These opportunities were evaluated and prioritized using a matrix, followed by stakeholder discussions.

journey-3

After several rounds of discussion regarding the nature of the content to be provided, the following IA was proposed-

The next stage entailed developing ideas and brainstorming about the layout of the design and wireframing.

The following screen is concept on different columns, layout for the repository and sections of videos.

Based on the selected concepts, mid-fidelity wireframes were presented. The design was made responsive to make it easily accessible by the patients on the device they have. The UI components and design system was already present and was given by the client.

Key Takeaways I took from this project-

  • A successful design needs insights from both business and users to create an experience which brings value for them.
  • Consistency of designs across products of a company creates a sense of connection and is brought by an effective design system.
  • Considering the sensitivity of the information to be delivered, simple UI plays a crucial role to avoid distraction.
